Allow Me to Introduce Myself

I am the fiery wife of a new fireman in Columbus. Georgia or Ohio or a hundred other cities in the U.S. named Columbus you ask? I’ll never tell:)  I named myself Fiery Wife totally in jest.
Me, Fiery Wife wearing my disguise :)

I was recently introduced to the surprising sub-culture of "fire-wife" blogging through a friend of mine whose husband is also a fireman. I found very few of those blog posts resonated with me and my life. More so, after reading them, I felt weird like I was doing something wrong by not pining over my husband when he’s on shift. Miss him, but this is what we signed up for. So, instead of trolling those other blogs and incessantly rolling my eyes at all the mushy melodramatic blog entries, I've decided to give a counter-perspective on the life of a “fire wife”. I use that phrase solely for communication purposes as I truly detest it and all its connotation and this will probably be the last time I use that phrase in reference to myself ever.

This blog strives to be funny, poignant only when necessary (is it ever truly necessary to be poignant?) and transparent in its commentary. I can tell you this blog won't be typical of other "fire wife" blogs. So, if you're looking to read hourly logs when my husband is on shift, run. Run away now. I will write my thoughts on his “24-on” (he’s on a 24-on, 48-off shift).

I love my family, so I'll talk about them a lot. I also love Jesus so don't be surprised if I talk about Him either, or drop a pertinent Bible scripture here and there.  I direct worship at my church and teach private music lessons so you might hear me mention those things too. I'm not perfect, neither are my perspectives. I don't expect you to agree with everything I write.

Although I am immensely proud of my husband's accomplishments, I will not refer to him as "my firefighter" or "my fireman"; he's my husband and was long before he became a fireman. That’s like him calling me “his worship leader” or his “music teacher”. Creepy! I willingly share my life and aspects of my family members’ lives with you from my utterly skewed perspective.

I choose to stay anonymous as a personal boundary, so you will not know our names. For this blog, I am Fiery Wife, my husband is Husband, my eldest son is Eldest Son, my youngest son is Youngest Son, my live-in mother is Forever Mom, my little sister is Dirty Vee, and my "surprise gift" of a dog is Uh-Oh (she's caused plenty of trouble and I really didn't want her). I will try to produce grammatically correct content but sometimes I’m going to blow it. Forgive me in advance for improperly used semi-colons, commas, and apostrophes. I will try dutifully to use my spell check and not mix my verb tenses.

I created this blog, not as a narcissistic mirror I can glare into whenever I need an ego boost, but rather, as a gathering place for wives of firemen, families who have a fireman amongst them, and curious bystanders. I know there are many of you out there that are similar to me and are looking for a good and relational read every now and again. Please enjoy, comment, and come back often!
